Man, 39, Docked For Engaging Neighbour’s Daughter In Sex While Asleep

A 39-year old man, Taiwo Lawal, has landed in trouble in Lagos State for allegedly sneaking into his neighbour’s apartment and engaging their 14-year old daughter in sex while she was asleep. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the suspect,  Lawal, has been arrested and charged for defilement under the Criminal Laws of the State.
The incident happened on 24th April, 2025, at Fagbeyi Street, Off Ebute Metta, Lagos, where they reside.
According to the Police, the suspect targeted the victim when her parents had gone to work and sneaked into their apartment while the victim was asleep and defiled her.
However, the matter got exposed after the victim informed her mother about what happened and the mother reported the matter to the Police at Iponri Division. The operatives, who moved into action, arrested the suspect and detained him at the station for interrogation.
After interrogation, the Police found him culpable and transferred him to the Gender Section of the State Command. From there, he was charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
The charge reads:
“That you, Taiwo Lawal ‘m’ on the 24th day of April 2025, at about Dhours, at Fagbeyi Street, Off Ebute Metta, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did defile the victim ‘f 14years old by having unlawful carnal knowledge of her and thereby committed offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
The Court did not take his plea following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.O.Tanimola, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to it DPP for legal advice.
The matter was adjourned for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
