Man, 49, Sent To Prison For Battering Wife During Public Brawl

A 49-year old man, Ugwu Isaac Sunday, has displayed his boxing prowess on his wife, Catherine Ijeoma Ugwu, by inflicting injury on her face with fist blows during public brawl in Lagos State. 
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened on Animashaun Street, Bode Thomas area of Surulere, Lagos, where they reside.
The cause of the fight was not disclosed by the Police, who alleged that the man inflicted injury on the victim’s face with punches and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
The alleged assault was reported to the Gender Section of the Lagos State Command. The operatives acted promptly by arresting the man, Sunday and detained him at the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.
After interrogation, the Police found Mr. Sunday culpable even as he did not show any remorse over his conduct.
The Police consequently charged him before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged assault on the victim.
He pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The prosecutor, Inspector Irabor Uche, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since the defendant pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to provide witnesses and prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.A Agbejo, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
