A 40-year old man, Julius Olele, has been arrested in Lagos for reportedly invading Police officers privacy by recording their action while allegedly causing traffic congestion in their bid to collect money from motorists.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Allen Avenue junction, Ikeja area of Lagos, where the officers claimed that they were on duty on pin down check point.

The embattled Mr. Olele was arrested and later charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court in Lagos for depriving the Police officers the choice and personal liberty to privacy while performing their “lawful” duty on the road by recording the activity of one Inspector Epson Solomon and two others attached to Ikeja Division.

It was gathered that Olele reportedly caught the officers while at the junction performing what the officers claimed to be lawful duty. He took his mobile phone, hid somewhere and started recording them before one of the eagle eyed officers caught him and alerted other officers on the road.

He was apprehended and detained at the station before he was charged to Court for the alleged offence.
What surprised many was if actually the officers were performing lawful duty. Some wondered why they would have been angered by Olele’s action while others claimed that they were actually there collecting bribe from motorists before they were caught on camera.

When Olele was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Supol Peter Nwaogwugwu, then asked the Court to fix a date for hearing since Olele pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Y.O. Aje-Afunwa, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
However, he was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions. The matter was adjourned till 19th December, 2019.
