Police operatives from Olosan Division in Lagos led by SP Ayodele Arogbo, have arrested a 42-year old man, Mohammed Abubakar, who allegedly forcefully penetrated a 9-year old girl inside Mushin market and damaged her private part in the process.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Daleko Market, Mushin area of Lagos, where Abubakar trades.

The victim was said to be badly injured and she cannot walk properly with her two legs because of the injury she sustained during the dastardly act.
It was gathered that the victim visited her grandmother, who is also a trader in the market, before Abubakar lured her into his shop, forcefully pulled her pant and penetrated her which caused serious pains. Srhe raised alarm and Abubakar was caught in the act.

By then, the victim was bleeding profusely from her private part and the Police were contacted. She was taken to an undisclosed hospital and the Police arrested Abubakar and detained him at the Command over the alleged defilement.
He admitted in his confessional statement that he was culpable and was charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for conduct likely to cause breach of peace, sexual assault and defilement.
The Court did not take his plea after the prosecutor, Mr. Edet Akadu, asked the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for advice because the alleged offence involved a minor who suffered serious damage in her private part.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. K.O. Ogundare, ordered Abubakar remanded in prison without an option of bail and did not equally take his plea.
The Court also directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the DPP for advice while Abubakar will remain in custody pending outcome of DPP’s advice.
He may likely be transferred to the High Court if the DPP report finds him culpable and recommends that he should be tried for defilement which attracts several years of imprisonment including death sentence if Abubakar is found guilty before Court. The matter was adjourned till 2nd December, 2019.
