The Police at Ejigbo Division led by CSP Olabisi Okuwobi have arrested a 32-year old married man, Ndubuisi Nwankwo, who allegedly broke into a Church looking for offering money to steal and was caught in the process.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at Faith Abundant Ministry International located at Oladuni Memorial Street, off Omiyale, Ejigbo area of Lagos.
It was gathered that the suspect, Nwankwo, had broken the entrance gate and the Church door keys in order to cart away Church offering before the security guard accosted and apprehended him while his accomplice, identified as Gbenga, escaped.
He was thereafter handed over to the Police at Ejigbo Division. During interrogation, he claimed that it was his friend, Gbenga, who lured him into it and he did not know it was a Church whereas he lives on the next street close to the Church. He also told the Police that they have not stolen anything before he was apprehended while his accomplice, Gbenga, who was inside, managed to escape.
The Police found him culpable and later charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrates Court for conspiracy and attempting to steal in the place of worship.
He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, asked the Court to fix a date for hearing since he pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the alleged offence.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Shomade, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
However, he was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned till 27th November, 2019.
