The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), yesterday received the National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr. Vincent Olatunji, at Ikeja House.

During the visit, Dr. Olatunji disclosed that the Commission has concluded plans to train civil servants across the country on data protection and privacy compliance, with Lagos State serving as the pilot phase. He explained that the training is part of the Federal Government’s drive to entrench a culture of responsible data handling, ensure transparency, and align public service operations with global best practices in digital governance.

In his response, the Council Chairman, Comrade Dauda welcomed the initiative and assured the Commission of his full cooperation. He pledged to support the NDPC by making training centres within Ikeja Local Government available for the capacity-building programme, noting that the initiative would not only empower civil servants but also boost confidence in governance processes at the grassroots.

Dr. Olatunji commended Comrade Dauda for his forward-thinking leadership and his commitment to strengthening institutions at the local level. He stressed that data protection is a critical enabler of trust, economic growth, and innovation, and expressed optimism that the partnership with Ikeja Local Government will serve as a model for other Councils across Nigeria.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to work hand-in-hand in promoting data privacy awareness, building capacity, and positioning Lagos State and Ikeja in particular at the forefront of Nigeria’s digital transformation.
