Ohanaeze Ndigbo: Chief Sunday Ossai Suspended As Factional President

The anticipated peace in Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State may be a mirage following the development after the peace party between the two factions led by Chief Solomon Aguene and Chief Sunday Udeh held at Calabar Hall recently.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the faction led by Chief Sunday Ossai distanced themselves from the purported peace meeting and went ahead to suspend Chief Ossai for gross misconduct by attending the meeting.
This was contained in the letter sent to Chief Ossai dated 7th February, 2026, which was signed by the General Secretary of the group, Chief Robert Obasi and Chairman of all Chairmen of 57 Local Council Areas, Chief Daniel Emeka Onwah, respectively.
It stated :
“To: High Chief Sunday Ossai*
President Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos Chapter
SUSPENSION ORDER
Following a duly convened and prolonged stakeholders’ meeting of the State Executives and Elected LGA/LCDA Chairmen of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos Chapter, and after careful consideration of recent events and your conduct as President, the leadership of the organization hereby issues this Order of Suspension.
It was unanimously resolved that your actions amount to gross misconduct, abuse of office, and deliberate acts that undermine the authority, collective decisions, and constitutional integrity of the Executives and elected LGA Chairmen. These actions have brought avoidable tension, division, and disrepute to Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos Chapter.
Accordingly, High Chief Sunday Ossai is hereby suspended from office as President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos Chapter with immediate effect, pending further investigation and determination by the appropriate disciplinary and reconciliation organs of the organization.
Terms and Scope of Suspension:
You shall immediately cease to perform or assume the functions of President or any leadership role within Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos Chapter.
You shall not represent yourself, directly or indirectly, as President or spokesperson of the organization during the period of this suspension.
You shall refrain from convening, attending, or influencing any official meetings or activities of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos Chapter.
You shall not issue statements, directives, or communications on behalf of the organization.
This decision is taken in accordance with the constitution, customs, and guiding principles of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, in the overriding interest of peace, discipline, due process, and institutional stability.
The suspension shall remain in force until it is formally reviewed, lifted, or converted to further disciplinary action as may be deemed necessary.
You are advised to conduct yourself in a manner that does not further prejudice the organization during the pendency of this process.
This notice serves as official and binding communication.” It stated.

Chief Ossai in response dissolved the Council of Chairmen of all the 57 Local Councils, which the General Secretary described as medicine after death and remarked that Chief Ossai has been suspended and cannot exercise such power.
