Okada Riders’ Chairman Murdered Few Days After Election

The elected chairman of motorcycle operators popularly known as Okada riders in Meiran, a suburb of Lagos, Mr Michael Okeke has been killed by unidentified armed men few days after he was elected into that position in Lagos.
The incident happened along the street at Meiran, Lagos where the victim reportedly carried a passenger unknown that the passenger was a suspected assassin.
The late Okeke resided at 4 Church Street in Meiran with his family before the incident happened.
What would have caused the brutal murder of the late Okeke was not yet known as the police was said to have not concluded the investigation.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the Okada union elected the late Okeke as their new chairman and some aggrieved members were not happy over the outcome of the election.
The late Okeke had reportedly addressed the members and called for support as he promised that he will not neglect any member in the course of his executing his mandate.
However, the tragedy struck last week when Okeke carried an unknown passenger who brought out an object, hit him from the back of his head and jumped from the bike.
The victim fell down and the assailant escaped with the bike to an unknown place.
The late Okeke was taken to a hospital by the residents where he eventually died.
His corpse was deposited at the morgue for autopsy report before he will be buried.
The ugly incident was reported to the police at Meiran Division who were said to have commenced investigation on the matter.
The late Okeke hailed from Umuchu town in Anambra State and was married with children.
No date has been fixed for his burial in his village.
When P.M.EXPRESS visited his Lagos residence, sympathisers were trooping in to condole with his wife and members of his family.
Some of the residents described him as an easy going person who lived at peace with his neighbours.
At the Meiran Police Division, the police confirmed the incident and told our reporter that the police have commenced investigation to arrest those behind the dastardly act.
