The Rivers State Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, has commiserated with the family of Senator Barinada Mpigi, the lawmaker representing Rivers South East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
In a statement issued on Saturday, 21st February, 2026, Prof. Odu expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the distinguished lawmaker, noting that the cold hands of death have taken away a dedicated public servant who contributed immensely to the growth and development of Rivers State and the nation at large.

According to her, Senator Mpigi’s impactful service as a member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Tai/Eleme/Oyigbo Federal Constituency for two tenures, and as Senator representing Rivers South East Senatorial District in the National Assembly until his demise, marked him out as a seasoned and committed legislator.
The Deputy Governor prayed to the Almighty God to grant his soul eternal rest and to give his family, loved ones, and constituents the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
