Ruling Houses Fault Kingmakers Over Installation Of New Oniroko Of Iroko

Posted on February 20, 2026

Two ruling houses of Adetunji and Falade in Iroko, Akinyele local government area of Ibadan in Oyo State have urged the kingmakers of the town to stop misleading the public over the filling of the vacant Oniroko stool.

The two ruling houses in a release by their counsel, Barrister Michael Lana while reacting to a statement credited to the kingmakers led by the Balogun of Iroko, Chief Jacob Adetunji calling for the installation of one Prince Obasola Adeyemi as the new Oniroko, disclosed that the kingmakers are engaging in contempt of court.

It would be recalled that the kingmakers that include the Iyalode of Iroko, Chief Silifat Ibiwunmi Yusuf; Ekerin Oniroko, Chief Isiaka Adeleke and the Secretary, Oniroko-in-Council, Dr. Moshood Abioye, had while addressing journalists recently, urged Governor Seyi Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, to help fast track the process of installing a new Oniroko.

Barrister Lana maintained that the kingmakers are aware of the pendency of a suit No: I/770/2025 over the Oniroko stool, stating that the claimants are Taiwo Popoola; Okunola Falana and Dr. John Adekunle Adedokun while defendants are Saka Fasanya; Oba Adewolu Rashidi Ladoja; Akinyele local government and Governor of Oyo State.
He then charged them to reveal the authority they have in receiving and forwarding the name of Prince Adeyemi to be installed as the new Oniroko.

According to him, Prince Adeyemi is a member of the Opeola family who produced the last Oniroko noting that it is the turn of either of the two ruling houses of Falade and Adetunji to produce a candidate for the vacant stool.
He said the time has come to remind the kingmakers and their kinds that the brigandage of the past will not be allowed to fester, stating that the Opeola family has indeed filed a defence to the case and should not take laws into their own hands.

The former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Oyo State added that while the kingmakers have the right to want to be in contempt of the court, they should not drag Governor Makinde and Oba Ladoja who is regarded as a reverred father of all into their illegality.
