Somolu LG Chairman Makes Case For Good Road Maintenance

Residents of Somolu have been called upon to protect and maintain government’s projects in their areas to make the projects stand the test of time to the benefit of the community as the owners of the projects.

The calling came from the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu, when he inspected the ongoing road and drainage constructions on Adedoyin, Babayemi and Ogunnaike streets. The Council Mayor urged the residents and Community Development Association (CDA) of the Ijebutedo area to shun auto workshops on tarred roads as water logs, oil and fuel spillage damage roads easily.

The three roads with two sided drainage system in Ijebutedo area of Palmgrove in Somolu are due to be completed in few months to decongest the traffic gridlock on Apata, Elediye roundabout, Shipeolu, Pedro and Ikorodu road.

The Executive Chairman urged the residents of Ijebutedo area to cooperate with the contractors to ensure a hitch free construction period to enable the contractors give the best of their qualities.

However, the Supervising Councilor for Works and Infrastructure, Alhaji Kabir Raji, enjoined the contractors to also cooperate with the residents and report to the Works and Infrastructure Department of the Council in case of any erring residents whose activity might be disturbing the works on drainage system or road construction. The Chairman’s entourage to the construction site included his aides: Chief of Staff,  Hon. Ayodele Samson Afolabi, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, Hon. Fatai Ogunde and Hon. Afolarin Olubiyi (Coded), who is also the Ward Chairman of Ijebutedo/Palmgrove. APC political leaders, Alhaji Bakare (Baba Oba) and Hon. Michael Oikeh were also with the Executive Chairman.

Moreover, the multiple awards winning Chairman said road users will have to use alternative routes in Somolu pending the time the construction will be completed.

“Pending the construction duration, road users can use Awofeso, Shipeolu, Apata to link Pedro and Ikorodu roads” Dullar said.
