The 2023 edition of the annual U-13 JOF Football Tournament which kicked off on 14 March will be climaxed on Sunday 11 June 2023 at the Campos Mini Stadium on Lagos Island. The sponsor, JOF Nigeria Limited, held a media conference at its corporate Headquarters where a lot of things planned for the final ceremony was made public. P.M. EXPRESS brings to focus some of the discussions Director, Strategic Support Services, JOF Nigeria Limited, Adeyinka Adetunji had with members of the sporting press during the press briefing.

What JOF Nigeria Limited expecting from the four finalists in their last matches?

We encourage all to let the spirit of fair play guide all the participants in the forthcoming final matches coming up on Sunday 11 June 2023. Playing in the third-place match are Ojo Babes against Kudus Babes from Epe by 1pm, while from 3pm, the grand finale will be between Zamadek Boys of Orile and Wazbak Babes from Lagos Mainland. We wish the four teams successful games.

The following improved cash prizes in addition to trophies and other items have been approved for this year’s competition. The winners will pocket the sum of N500, 000 while the runners-up go home with the sum of N400, 000. The third position will get N300, 000 with the fourth position taking home the sum of N200, 000. We will also reward some individual players who distinguished themselves during the tournament. These include the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the competition, the Best Team and the Best Goalkeeper.

Why we are sponsoring U-13 JOF Football Tournament?

Let me reiterate the fact that JOF Nigeria Limited is sponsoring this competition to promote development of football at the grassroots and to help discover young talents in Lagos State. We also believe that through sporting activities, our youth can be positively engaged.

Where the sponsor sees the tournament in the nearest future

While we are organising the 4th edition, we have already planned for the 5th edition which we want to make bigger and better. For the 5th edition, we want to see the competition, especially in the final ceremony, having the Governor of Lagos State in attendance. We will also approach the involvement of the Lagos State Sports Commission in our programme next year, not for any financial assistance but for the government to get involve in what we are doing.

About U-13 JOF Football Tournament going nationwide or being organised in the southwest zone

For now, we don’t plan to take the competition beyond Lagos State. While the company has its activities in other states, our headquarters is in Lagos, for now, we would like to be here doing the tournament. We will love to continue to have the competition staged in Lagos State.

On the need to have female category of U-13 JOF Cup

The competition is designed for the male football players alone and all effort would be made to make the competition bigger and glamorous for this category of players. We won’t be going into female football competition, instead we will ensure that the U-13 Cup is better organised.
