Uche Nwosu: Renowned Lawyers File Appeal At The Supreme Court

Posted on October 30, 2019
The governorship Candidate of Action Alliance, AA, in the 2019 governorship election, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, says there is no cause for alarm over the Appeal Court Judgement voiding his candidacy for what it termed double-nomination, urging his supporters across the State and beyond, and all lovers of democracy not lose sleep over the judgement in question.
In his reaction to the Judgement, Nwosu said that the issue in Contention was a pre-election matter and was also filed out of time, believing that the apex Court would do Justice to the matter since the electoral law was very clear on such issues.
According to Nwosu, the man who went to Court on the matter lacked the locus because he was not affected or concerned by the issue in question in any way, and should not have been listened to, in the first place, adding that the All Progressives Congress, APC, had a Candidate in the governorship election in the person of Chief Hope Uzodinma and should not have had two Candidates at the same time for the 2019 gubernatorial poll.
He informed that a team of seasoned lawyers have already filed appeal against the Judgement at the Supreme Court, reiterating his confidence in the Judiciary and also expressed the hope that Justice would be done to the matter at the end of the day.
He described the whole legal wars launched against him as the handwork of those who stole his mandate and working hard to retain the stolen mandate, against the wishes and aspirations of Imo people, stressing that every legal step must be taken to ensure that the mandate of Imo people is retrieved from the wrong hands holding it and their wish, also realized.
His words “The matter is a pre-election matter which has no bearing with the proceedings of post election matters. On the issue of double nomination, the matter has been technically settled because there was a court injunction brought forth during the APC primaries that made APC to submit the name of Senator Hope Uzodimma as the Guber Candidate of the Party instead of me and according to the Electoral Law, No party should be allowed to field more than one candidate for the same Elective position. We have appealed and my lawyers will argue it out because hiding behind technicalities will not grant them victory”.
Nwosu also used the opportunity to react on the issue of the withdrawal of the Action Alliance from the election Petition suit, noting that what happened was that the Party that was the second petitioner in the suit, due to some reasons, decided to allow him to pursue the matter with more vigor.
He stated “It’s unfortunate that the opposition twisted the matter and misrepresented the judgement of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court never ruled on my candidature as the Party flag bearer of AA because it has already confirmed that vis-a-vis the Tribunal”.
Chief Nwosu went further to state “on my Guber Election Petition, I have Appealed and the matter will be called up soon for hearing. Be rest assured that the matter will continue to a logical conclusion”.
