The election of the President General of Umuchu town, Aguata Local Government area of Anambra State, which was scheduled for 16th August, 2025, may not hold in Umuchu following a petition by one of the contestants, Engr. Chidi Amarube to the Anambra State Commissioner For Local Government Chieftaincy and Community Affairs alleging that he was rigged out during the primary election by his village community.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the Anambra State Commissioner For Local Government Chieftaincy And Community Affairs has directed the President General of the town, Ozo Charles Ezenwabasili, to halt any election and investigate the allegation by Chidi Amarube and report back to the Government within two weeks.
By implication, the election may not hold as scheduled because the PG Umuchu,  Ozo Ezenwabasili, had already scheduled for the meeting to deliberate on the petition as directed by the Commissioner.
Trouble started after the Ibughubu community leadership under Okpu na Achalla block in Umuchu town directed the Chairman of the the six wards to present 5-man delegates to vote in the election.
The selection process did not go down well with Engr. Amarube, who felt that he was shortchanged and rigged out during the election, which produced three candidates namely, Professor Chimaihe Mbachu, Hon. Ifeanyi Emegwa and Ogbuehi Raph Njirika as candidates to contest for the election.
Thus, he wrote the petition to the Commissioner and President General of Umuchu town union as stated through his lawyer:
“If our client is rigged/screened out illegally he will go to court to challenge the primaries and final election. We hope the needful will be done.”
This was contained in a petition sent through the chambers of Chinaemelu Okolo & Associates on behalf of one of the contestants, Engr Chidi Amarube, to the Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the President General of Umuchu town union over the primary election held in the community on 16th June, 2025.
Accordingly, the Commissioner has directed the leadership of Umuchu town led by Ozo Charles Ezenwabasili and his executives to investigate and bring the report in two weeks.
Engr. Chidi Amarube in his letter dated July, 2025 with reference number,
GEN/20/EN/98/25 stated:
“The President General,
Umuchu Improvement Union Representative Assembly (UIURA) Aguata Local Government Area Anambra State.”
Sir,
“RE: ELECTION OF TOWN UNION PRESIDENT GENERAL PRIMARY ELECTION OF UMUCHU
We act as solicitors to Ogbuehi Engr, Alex Chidi Amarube (hereinafter referred to as our client) and we write to you on his behalf and instruction in respect of the above subject.
This is to apprise you of the fact that our client was rigged out” in election contested in his Village/Ibughubu Community Umuchu last month 16th June, 2025.
Our client was rigged out because of reasons best known to the organizers. Our client was, therefore, screened/rigged out.
This is the handiwork of some enemies who felt that our client was a threat to them and their ambition.
Our client was rigged out from the primaries for no just cause and contrary to the constitution. The constitution of Ibughubu Village Umuchu Improvement Union Representative Assembly (IIURA) should be allowed to guide the primaries.
Our client should, therefore, be allowed to re-contest the primaries and if he loose, he will go home gladly. Our client should not be shortchanged for no just cause.
Our client therefore, seek audience with you to explain his position.
If our client is rigged/screened out illegally he will go to court to challenge the primaries and final election. We hope the needful will be done.”
Thanks.
Yours faithfully,
Dr. O.T. Umahi

As a result of the ongoing investigation over the allegations, the Government has not given any approval for the election and the President General has not given any specific date for the election because of the uncertainty of the outcome of the investigation, which could lead to outright cancellation of the primary election for a fresh primary.

Ikegwuru situation, the primary election was free and fair as I witnessed it.
Engr. Chidi can only challenge his ward that on the choice of their delegate list that did not vote for him. Other ward delegates voted for their candidate but he was not favoured by his ward.
