We’ll Make Lagos Technology Hub Of Africa – Hamzat

Posted on January 10, 2019
The All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate for Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat has said he and the governorship candidate, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu will make Lagos state the technology hub of Africa, if elected.
The former Commissioner for Science and Technology in Lagos State made the statement today while addressing the subject of Leadership and Democratic Governance in Lagos State on Lagos Television Station (LTV 8).
Hamzat said he and Sanwo-Olu were set out to maximize the advantage of the huge youth population in the state and the growing interest and capacity shown by this group to make the state the technology hub of Africa.
He added that Lagos was absolutely grateful for having his party, led by President Buhari, in charge of the national government, noting that the challenges to development of Lagos presented by the then opposition-led Federal Government during the period of former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, were completely out now.
He also said that the ongoing developmental partnership between the APC-led Federal Government and Lagos State is the reason Lagos has remained the most economically formidable state in Nigeria while obliging the voting public to cast their votes for Buhari and Sanwo-Olu in the forthcoming presidential and gubernatorial elections respectively.
“We will continue to emphasize it that technology will be a major priority in our aspiration for a greater Lagos. That’s why we have Information Communication and Technology (ICT) in our recently unveiled 5 Pillars of Development for Lagos. In this plan, we have deliberately placed Education and ICT together to ensure that teaching and learning in our schools have strong connections with the demands of modern technology and development.
“Therefore our vision is to inspire a generation of IT whizkids who will enable us extract sufficient gains and investments that are driven by data and technology. As such we will ensure coding is introduced in our schools and several programmes that are geared towards increasing the knowledge and positioning our youths for greater opportunities in the information age,” he said.
