Widow, Son On The Run Over Attempt On Life By Suspected Assassins

The death of Muiywa Adekoye has not only brought pain and sorrow to his immediate family, the Will he left behind had even caused life threatened anguish targeted at ending the life of both the wife and son of the deceased.
Adekoye, a successful businessman, who was into agricultural produces and also into real estate, died mysteriously on 7 October after brutal assassin attacks on 29 September, 2002.
The wife, Mrs. Felicia told P.M. EXPRESS that it was a death that came suddenly, but incidents that happened in the wake of the death of her husband has been so disturbing for the widow and her son, Glorious Adekoye after the Will left behind by the deceased was unveiled by the family’s lawyer.
This newspaper understands that Adekoye gave 60 percent of his assets to his son in the Will with the condition of having the possession of the percentage when he might have attained the age of 18. The other 40 percent was willed to the children from his other wife, and periodical rental income to other close relatives.
Findings revealed that the late Adekoye was a businessman who invested in agricultural plantations in cocoa and palm oil, as well as in real estate in Akure, Ondo State.
“The problems for me and my son started after the contents of the Will were read. I have not known peace since then as several attempts have been made on my life and that of my son by assassins,” Mr. Adekoye narrated her ordeals to P.M. EXPRESS at her residence in Maryland, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.
She disclosed that he knew the person behind the alleged attempts on her life to be Mr. Rotimi Adekoye, who is a brother to her late husband, who was also the trustee of the 60 percent inheritance to Glorious pending the attainment of the stipulated age.
“Unknowingly to me, the contents of the Will were disapproved by the relatives lead by Rotimi. Sometime in 2003, he threatened me after I refused what he described as a ‘cultural marriage’ with me, claiming that he had the right to marry me after the death of his brother.
“Despite agreeing to give more percentage of the rental income to the extended family even above what my husband stated in the Will, Rotimi was hell bet in dealing with me and my son.
“On several occasions, he raped me with the impunity that I was one of his inheritances.
“There had been many occasions of physical harassment, intimidation and threat to life by this man. He vowed to frustrate me and my son all because my husband left a Will that gave my son the lion shares of his assets to Glorious.
“What surprise me the most is that I have been receiving calls of the callers demanding the whereabouts and the location of my son. But I have remained adamant because I won’t let them know where my son is. These people are devils and capable of doing anything just to get rid of my son.
” I want to let the whole world know that Rotimi Adekoye has vowed to hijack my late husband’s properties such as the cocoa and palm oil plantations, houses and commercial buildings in choice places in Akure. He has set assassins on our trails.
“In the wake of this, I have to be on the run with my son for us not to suffer untimely death. The persecution is too much to bear for me and my son. When situation was getting deadly, I was forced to relocate my son abroad so that the evil arms of Rotimi and his people won’t get to him.
“My attempts to seek refuge, protection and justice from the Nigeria Police and the court system in Nigeria yielded no good results, as the corrupt nature of the system has compromised all my moves. I strongly believe that he has godfathers giving him covers and protections from the arms of the law. These must be from his political associates. But I know that with God on our side, we shall overcome.”
P.M. EXPRESS’ checks with the police in Akure corroborated the impression Mrs. Adekoye had with the law enforcement agents, who were reluctant to give this newspaper information on the plight of the widow.
The police at the Alagbaka police station in Akure said that the issue the widow had with Mr. Rotimi Adekoye was a family matter which they believed the extended family are currently handling. When asked on the gravity of the allegation of threat to life by the widow, the police who were economical with the truth disclosed that they won’t comment on the issue except they got permission from their superiors.
Effort to speak to Mr, Rotimi Adekoye proved abortive as he refused to pick his calls. Except something is done urgently, the innocent widow’s life is no doubt is in danger
