The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), today led a high-powered team of political office holders and council staff in the second edition of the re-introduced monthly environmental sanitation exercise across Lagos State.
The exercise, which is aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness and public health, saw the Chairman personally monitoring compliance and participating actively in sanitation activities across key areas in Ikeja.
In demonstrating proactive leadership, Comrade Dauda reiterated the importance of environmental hygiene as a cornerstone for sustainable urban development. He emphasized that the initiative aligns strategically with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, as well as Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy. He further noted that Ikeja Local Government remains committed to complementing the State Government’s vision through the implementation of its I.K.E.J.A Agenda, which prioritizes a cleaner, safer, and more livable environment for residents.
Accompanying the Chairman during the exercise were the Secretary to the Local Government, Prince Adeyinka Illo, the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Chief Adeyi Adeniyi,  Councillors led by the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Ogunseye Rasheed Adisa; Supervisory Councillors; Ikeja CDC Chairperson, Alhaja Folami, Special Advisers; and the Management Staff of the Local Government led by the HoD, Environment Department, Sanitarian Omotosho. The collective participation of both the executive and legislative arms, alongside the administrative workforce, underscores a unified commitment to environmental sustainability and grassroots governance.
Comrade Dauda used the opportunity to call on residents, traders, and business owners within Ikeja to embrace the culture of regular sanitation, proper waste disposal, and community participation. He stressed that government efforts alone are insufficient without active citizen involvement, urging all stakeholders to take ownership of their environment.
He assured residents that the monthly sanitation exercise would be sustained and strengthened as part of broader efforts to enhance public health, prevent environmental hazards, and reinforce Ikeja’s status as a model local government in Lagos State.
