A 23-year old, Mukaila Abiodun, has landed in prison after he was caught stealing some plastic soft drinks worth about N2,700 at the popular Just Rite superstore in Lagos.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the Just Rite Superstore branch located at Jakande Estate in Ejigbo area of Lagos.

Abiodun was handed over to the Police at Ejigbo Division and the store management insisted that he should be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to other who might try such in future.
The suspect’s journey to prison started after he went to the place with others said to be at large, conspired, and stole three packs of plastic soft drinks.
However, unknown to them the security men saw them while they were stealing the items through CCTV and accosted them. They apprehended Abiodun while the two other suspects escaped.
He was handed over to the police who charged him before the Ejigbo Magistrates court for stealing.
He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor did not object his being granted bail.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. L.K.J. Layeni, granted Abiodun bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 12th September, 2018.

P.M.EXPRESS tried to find out why the Just Rite Superstore management insisted on prosecuting Abiodun despite the fact that they recovered the said items and he had pleading with them to no avail. It was said that the management took such hard stance so that others including the staff will learn from it and be deterred from stealing anything from the store no matter the worth of such items.
